Eng’g Week in Detail December 20, 2006

–Smoker’s Night. Even though this was just one of the initial events for my first ever Eng’g Week, I already got the feel of what the rest of Eng’g Week would be like. People from different organizations were as fanatic as I had never seen. (For those who are unfamiliar with this amazing event, here’s a little info on it) Smoker’s Night is one night where orgs get to put on a stage performance and bash (for lack of a better word) other orgs. It’s as immature as it can get but what the hey, it was super fun to see what other orgs would throw at us. I found myself shouting in support for our org. If I weren’t really into my org, magsasawa ako sa kakasigaw ng “SEXY!!”. So anyway, the event started a bit late, and ended late too, I got back to the dorm at around midnight already, thank heavens for my late permit (which I learned was very handy for the rest of Eng’g Week). For our performance I was one of the voice overs. We sang part of “American Dream” as a spoof of IE Club’s Awitan performance the previous year. We didn’t place, but I loved it. =)
FRIDAY - DECEMBER 8
–Jammeng’g. (A sort of Battle of the Bands thing) I didn’t get to watch the first few bands to perform because Yen, Joan, and I were at Ino’s house doing some brainstorming for awitan choreo. When we got back to UP, it was CURSOR 1’s performance already. And I just have to say, they were terrific if not superb! Ang galing talaga nila, grabe. I really really really admire their talent. I only got to watch them perform “Say A Little Prayer”, though. Still, ang galing. =) Since the actual event started late (yet again), I got back to the dorm at around 2:30 AM. I enjoyed the guest bands that performed too.. there was Stonefree, Mayonnaise, Menaya, and some other band that sounded plain freakin weird. And that was Jammeng’g.
MONDAY - DECEMBER 11
The day I almost exploded from uber tension. I had 3 main events that day.
–Poetry Writeng’g. Joelle, Myles, and I were the heads of this CURSOR-sponsored event. Since I had still gone to Math class that morning just for the attendance, I rushed the printing of the scoresheets and the criteria for judging of the entries. Plus, we hadn’t found enough judges for that event yet, it was all just crazy. Talk about running around, going here and there, up, down, (inside, outside?), everywhere. Haha. But it all turned out good.. Some of the poems they submitted were actually good, and some.. well, let’s just say they really took their poetic license seriously.
–Dulaan. We had been practicing a lot for this event. I played the part of Malou, a filipina who was brought to Japan and worked as a prostitute for Yakuza.. It was hard for me, since I have never acted, not once in my entire life.. plus there were parts where Malou’s lines were uber emotional, and I had to sort of “hurt” myself.. and act really sick and all that. I think I gave a good enough performance that day though.. Unfortunately, we just ended up third place. It was a great effort still.
–Awitan. My most awaited event. After Dulaan I was just hyper. Excited, nervous, anxious, everything! All at the same time. We were cramming even up to the last little moments.. and it was just.. crazy exciting! For those who do not know anything about awitan, it’s this competition between org’s choirs where they sing one required piece and one chosen piece. It was also my first time to be part of a choir.. and even more surprising that this first time would be in a competition. We were to perform 9th.. and the waiting was just MAD! I could feel the nervousness in the dressing room.. while having last minute rehearsals and make-up and costume fixing and whatever else you could do at the last minute. Hehe. But when our turn came, it all just went away. There was just our performance. I really don’t want to relive that moment because it was quite frustratiing for us.. but still, I loved the whole experience. GO awitanerz!
WEDNESDAY - DECEMBER 13
–Indakan. Another major event that people really look forward to watching every Eng’g Week. It’s a dance competition between the finest of the finest dancers from each org. There was the pairs competition and the group competition. Grabe! Ang galing nilang lahat sumayaw! You really would not believe that this was coming from Engineering Orgs. Ang lupet talaga! It was really entertaining watching the whole thing. Especially since I loooove dancing. I would’ve wanted to dance there too, but I don’t think I have what it takes. Haha. (Hanggang frustration ko na lang yun. Sigh.)
FRIDAY - DECEMBER 15
There was still a major event that thursday, Maskipaps(the fashion show thing) but I didn’t watch coz I tried finishing my MP which was due the next day. So let’s skip to Friday, Ms. Eng’g!!
–Ms. Engineering. Ahh the Engineering Week grand finale. Ms. Engineering is a beauty contest.. FOR GUYS dressed as women. Haha. I think it was just a matter of who had the most courage to flaunt their inner woman. Aaron did superb as Ms. Cursor! Ganda talaga. And the gowns and bathing suits were really really nice too! Daig pa ang mga kababaihan ng Eng’g. =P This started late too, bulok talaga ang sistema. haha. So I got kind of sleepy during the pageant.. but org spirit always woke me up. Plus that video of the Ms. Eng’g contestants as guys was, well, nakakaaliw talaga. =)
There were a hundred more events during Eng’g week, these were just the major ones. Every day saw kalat at every tambayan, students cheering and playing at events instead of going to class (woops!), but most of all, the whole college having SO MUCH FUN! And as for my very first Eng’g Week experience, I learned so much.. hard work, teamwork, love for the org, they all contribute to every little EWOC point we earned. And even though we were just 3rd after everything, that exceeded our expectations. Kala namin wala na, meron pa pala! I loved it. =) Gusto mag Eng’g Week ulit! hehe.
