My Favorite Feeling October 18, 2007

Posted by Mayee in : Daily Babble , 1 comment so far

Ever since I started commuting to and from school when I was in my Freshman year of College, I have discovered my favorite feeling in the whole wide world. My favorite feeling is that feeling I get when I’m walking, when I’m on the bus, when I’m in the van, on the MRT. You know why? It’s the only time in my day when I can think about absolutely nothing and absolutely everything at the same time. Even better are those long night-time walks alone along the streets of Makati (which I am forced to take when I go home late and Department Stores/Malls a.k.a my shortcut to the shuttle terminal at Landmark have already closed). The streets aren’t crowded anymore, cool wind’s blowing in my face, passing by restaurants, fondly watching people on late night rendezvous.  Then on the ride home, the van runs so fast along the Skyway and South Super Highway that the bright street lights and neon signs are nothing but a blurry aura of the most fantastic colors you can ever imagine. Add a little music from my mp3 player, and voila, my favorite 45-minute tranquil escape from the hussle and bustle of everyday living. Nothing matters when you’re travelling. Not until the ride ends anyway.

But then you picture that night you and friends gather around a few drinks and the chill of an evening swim under the stars, and then you wonder if anything could be any happier than the company of the people you cherish the most.

My favorite feelings in the whole entire world. =)

B: “Ok. One Tall Cafe Mocha.”

M: “Yeah, the HOT.”

Blog #2 For today October 14, 2007

Who says I can only blog once per day?  Now I have time for 2 Blogs!! Or maybe 3 later if I stay up late finishing CS 173 Interface.

Anyhoo. I just came home from my cousin’s place. Like I said in my previous post, it’s her birthday today. Mom and I went to Alabang Town Center at around 2PM to get a gift. We shopped till we saw the perfect gorgeous little bag at RusTan’s. After that we went to Festival Mall to watch No Reservations, which wasn’t showing at ATC anymore. It was a nice movie. And I haven’t gone out with my mom, just the two of us, no annoying kid sister and preoccupied / never-satisfied / (insert negative adjective here) father with us. I love bonding with my mom. =)

Then we headed over to Ate Ann’s place where I got stuffed with Pizza, Mojos, Chicken, and a lot of other yummy foods plus Chocolate Marjolain Cake, which Ate Ann refused to put candles on and blow (now really…). Theeeen for the first time in oh i dunno, so looooooong, I got to watch TV! Nope, we don’t have TV here at home. I mean, we do have TV as in the physical device TV, but you can’t really watch anything on it like TV shows or whatever. I can just watch DVDs on it, and VCDs and stuff, so it sucks. Thank goodness to the internet, and youtube especially, for keeping me updated on what’s happening in the civilized world.

Over all, I really enjoyed my day. I got to do a lot of things I haven’t done in a long time. Special mention to waking up at 7 AM on a non-school day. Even my cousin, who I texted to greet Happy Birthday was shocked.. asked if I was awake because I woke up early or because I haven’t slept yet. Haha. Funny.

I think this sembreak’s gonna be fun. =)  It better be.

Good Life, Good Life October 14, 2007

Well, that’s it. Classes are over. Although there’s still some left over project requirements for CS 173 and a final exam for CS 32 (for which I need a ridiculously high target grade for reasons that are beyond me).

I woke up unusually early today. Helped my younger sister cook eggs for breakfast. I did the shell-cracking. That’s pretty much the most I can do in cooking eggs. I can’t cook eggs right, much less anything else for that matter.

Then I watched Bratz. Yeah, Bratz. The same bratz as those funny-looking and weirdly-proportioned dolls that are quite popular among young girls these days as much as Barbies were when I was a kid. Whatever happened to poor old Barbie? The poor thing was out-fashioned by overly made-up dolls in short skirts, killer pumps and swollen lips. Haha. It’s funny how times can change.

It’s my cousin’s birthday today, but I doubt she’ll be reading this, but anyway, Happy Birthday, Ate Ann! =)  We’ll be going over to their house for dinner later. Wow and I still remember like it was yesterday she was turning 18. Now I’m 18. And gosh darn, she turned 18 eight years ago. Almost a decade! Good golly.

Oh and by the way, I’m still not over Stardust.. It was such a great movie. I wanna watch it agaaaaaaaaain.

I have nothing interesting to actually blog about besides my uneventful day so far. Lemme just say post “Inanimate Tarpaulin” kind of attracted the wrong attention. I’m in the debating mood actually, so that was just a statement of opinion of y’all don’t agree with me, I’m sorry, nothing ya can do about it. So let’s just have fuuuuun! =)

8-MCDO October 12, 2007

Learned something today. Laugh if you must but I just found out that McDo has an online service for placing orders. 0.0 Amazing. But, alas, like everything else in this country, it has its bad points.  They ask you to input your phone number so that they can call you and confirm your order. So having the online service doesn’t replace the need for you to have a phone line before you could order, which was exactly what I thought it had solved miraculously.

Anyway, I’m at Jen Sze’s place right now… we’re finishing our Database software for CS 173. And I am happy to say we’ve mad some progress! Key word: some.

Oh, it was my 3rd time at SM North this afternoon. Met Jen and the rest of my groupmates there before we headed over here. I got confused. Thought I was at Megamall at some point. Amazingly, I miss the familiar yet still very misleading layout of SM Southmall / Las Pinas. Like I said, I miss the South.

Weeee. =)

After this, tapos na sem ko! I miss gimmiks. =/

The Inanimate Tarpaulin October 12, 2007

I understand that an individual, even an organization or a group of people are expected by society to have stands regarding certain issues in the world, be it politics or local celebrities or whatever. I don’t see the sense in this, but I know people have a need to say their piece and have the desire to be heard by an audience of whomever, usually their peers, or the people they’re trying to impress. More often than not, though, it’s just to conform. A common thread of thought that goes something like “Other people have stands, well I can have one too.”

But let’s say there’s an issue of great significance that just so happens to be the talk of the town. Do I really need to broadcast to the world if I’m pro-<issue here> or anti-<issue here>? Do people really care what a certain person’s stand is? Or is it some conversational piece like how you like the weather, or what cheese you dig the most.

I remember back when Erap had just become the hottest issue around. Everything on the news was about him and his impeachment. People were going around asking each other, “Ikaw, pro-Erap ka ba o anti-Erap?” And then there was this certain STAND-TO-BE, and during that time it was anti-Erap, hence EDSA DOS. It’s not that I think it’s a bad idea, I actually thought the EDSA Revolts were very inspiring times in the Philippines’ history. But does it really have to be this way? One saying his or her stand and debating about it with another? If you’re not on a debate team, then what’s the sense trying to persuade somebody to be on your side of whatever team? It’s not really getting people, it’s about doing something about your stand.

I am actually writing this entry because I came across a certain, well let’s just, for the sake of anonymity, call it an establishment. I came across this establishment that had on its outer facilities a fairly large-sized tarpaulin that was meant to show the outside world that they have this certain stand on something.

What I’m trying to say is that giving out a stand doesn’t really DO anything for society? It may help on petitions and stuff like that but saying something like STOP THE BLAHBLAHBLAH or SAVE THE BLAHDIBLAH. If I’m going to say I have a stand, I’m sticking to it, living by it, and am trying to do my goshdarn best to do something about it otherwise even if I do have a stand, without anything else I might just as well straight away say I don’t give a rat’s ass. =P

Unusually Eventful October 12, 2007

The Day. Started off with my mom pulling me out of bed. Yes, literally pulling me out of bed because I had plastered a huge note on my door that said, “Mommy, sasabay ako.” That implies me saying that she get me awake at 6:00AM no matter what it takes because I have something important to do at school in the morning. That ALSO usually implies that my mom would take around 15minutes to get me to stand up and drag my grumpy ass into the bathroom. This morning was no different.

Took me 2 hours to get to school, as usual, where upon getting there I was faced with a Dan and a Joelle both with statements of “kala ko ba 7 andito ka na?”

We had lunch at… oh wait, we didn’t have lunch… not a proper one, at least. We just had hotdogs at that hotdog stall between Faculty Center and Palma Hall. By we I mean myself, Joelle, Dan, Yen, Kervin, Paolo, Jeune, and Ernest (although not all of us ate, we all just whiled a half-an-hour away there).

The funnest part of all…

The WE-SAW-A-MOVIE-AT-TRINOMA part! Dan, Joelle, Yen and I watched “Stardust”, starring the very hot (well at the latter part of the movie at least) Charlie Cox, and Claire Danes, and a lot of very hot and very gay actors and actresses. Aside, of course from the star-studded cast, I loved the story. It was funny, romantic, creative, and my gosh, we almost cried at the end. That was my first encounter with a Neil Gaiman work (the story base), at least.

Romantic love story (even of somehow comedic nature) + Starbucks coffee = Very bitter aftertase

After the movie, Yen left, Dan left a short while after. Joelle and I went on doing the only thing we could afford to do.. window shop, and sit at some restaurant while talking about the slight differences between the cultures of northern Metro Manila, and of course the South, our home sweet home.

….Then we went home. Between this paragraph and the last one, a few interesting things happened too, but those sort of things are not really intented to be posted for public spectacle. But really it was mostly walking… walking far distances to no apparent avail.

And then ended my day. I miss the South. I shall bond with the South this break. Hi, South. =)
