The ICU, and the right Information May 29, 2008

I entered the ICU with utmost caution and anxiety. I had never been in an ICU of any hospital before. Even the ordinary halls of it freaked me enough that I thought I would faint when I went in the ICU.

But I was wrong. I felt a wave of sadness and pity surge through my body as I glanced past the glass doors dividing each patient’s space from the others. No place could make me feel the frailty of human life as that place did. Some patients were victims of vehicular accidents, which is much harder to accept than any other case, because vehicular accidents are man-induced tragedies. And it just feels unjust.

At that moment, I wished I were a doctor. I wished I could understand the immense complexities that went on behind each patient’s frail frame. I wished I knew that there was something I could do. I sighed as the realization dawned on me, that I could only hope and pray for their welfare, for my Lola’s recovery.

AND IT HAS GOTTEN ME THINKING.

The world is tough enough without us human beings trying to inflict death upon ourselves earlier than our time’s up. And here’s an interesting tidbit: if something’s supposed to be expected, don’t let yourself be surprised. KNOW. For instance, know heart attack symptoms. (Yes, that’s a nifty little link right there that lets you know everything you need to know about sudden cardiac arrest, since it’s one of the top killers nowadays. A little click won’t harm you as much SCA would).

Fate might have been couting on you to know when to call for an ambulance, not intending to put you out just yet.

I can never be a doctor. I can be either too optimistic or too pessimistic for my own good.

Tragic Saturdays May 28, 2008

Last Saturday afternoon, tragedy struck my family.

The day started out on the right track. Indiana Jones was out in cinemas already that day, and I found a perfect opportunity for a family day-out (with all FOUR of us), something we haven’t had in years, if I’m not mistaken, and something I’ve missed doing a lot. That Saturday was going to turn out great, or so I thought.

Since Indiana Jones is one series my Dad really loves, (since it’s directed by Steven Spielberg and Produced by George Lucas.. can you say “wow” ?) we had to watch it at Greenbelt so as to enjoy the audio and video quality you can’t get anywhere else.

Before we went inside Cinema 1, my sister and I splurged on Jelly Belly at Nuts about Candy. *ME LOVES JELLY BELLY NOW*. Though I painfully regretted spending that large amount on sugar.

As we got into our seats, comfortably located at the rear of the cinema, my mom said she was going back outside to load her phone. Apparently she had to make a call. My sister told me she had gotten a text message that our Lola was in a vehicular accident and was in the Emergency Room. The vehicle she was riding in got hit by a jeep, and Lola was thrown out, hitting her head really hard on the rocky pavement.

I got worried at that point, although not worried enough that I couldn’t enjoy the movie that much since my mom said she’d been able to talk to Lola on the phone. Apparently we thought Lola was okay.

WRONG. (more…)

The Perks of Blogging May 22, 2008

Blogging is the closest I get to a quick release. A quick release of anything, everything.. the stresses of the day, the happy moments, and things I wanna just shout out to the world!

But really, blogs have a little more to offer than just a quick release.

A few weeks ago, a horrifying email plopped up on my monitor. It wasn’t spam, it wasn’t a virus, it wasn’t even remotely harmful whatsoever to my system, or anything of that sort. It was sad news. My dear domain is about to expire in a few weeks. Since I am not a cardholder, and I think it’s going to be hard to beg for a one-year extension from *some certain person*, I was at the mercy of godaddy.com . I could not let my domain expire!

I asked for suggestions from a friend. He suggested I just pay for the domain using a bank transaction etcetera etcetera.. honestly, I could not understand a word he was saying. But dear Mr. Kal of kaliesty.blogspot.com had another better idea. And though I’d already heard of this from, er, other bloggers, this time I was desperate. I was willing to try anything.

AND VOILA! I have now succumbed to the realm of blog marketing (yes, see the link for more info on that) in the blink of an eye. It’s called PayPerPost. As you can see, my blog really isn’t the ad-filled kind, but an occasional link or two never hurt anybody, right? But as Mr. Kal had conveniently FORGOTTEN to mention, and I have just realized, more deadlines need to be met now, as if I don’t have enough on my plate already. BUUUT dum-da-da-dan! At least this way, I can get a plate upgrade. Silver plates are sweeeeter. If you know what I mean.

So I guess if my stubborn and close-minded self has given in to this, then maybe you should too! After all, I only give in to things that really do weigh out to be really worth it.

I Hate Dress-up May 21, 2008

During my grade school days (and even throughout highschool), group skits and plays were often the activity thought-up by teachers who had in their minds the belief that it would make for more “interactive” learning and application.

I HATED IT.

I hated having to bring costumes to school, having to change into them during class hours, and having to look ridiculous in front of everybody. If I got to pick my role, I would not base my choice on the difficulty of the acting involved, I would pick the less tedious to prepare for in terms of costume.

For one thing, our stock of out-of-date and dressy clothing at home is not one to pride on. My Dad’s more on the minimalistic, so what we don’t need is thrown out directly to the trash. So when it came to fairy-tale character costumes, renaissance costumes, or those white Elvis-impersonator jumpsuits, I was always at a loss.

To this day, if a party involves the kind-of dressing up that can’t be won over by just a fancy hat, I would greatly consider being the killjoy, and just come in normal clothing and say I was dressing up as myself, or the tactic I prefer usually, not going at all and just starting my own party.

See me do the banana split.

My other blog is now HERE now. Don’t ask me why I moved back to that domain. I don’t know why either.

Rewind and Freeze! May 17, 2008

I have one more final exam and then my Summer classes will be officially over. Yep, once again, life went by faster than I could say “Sloooooow Doooooooown!”

Can somebody tell me where the freak the rewind button on this thing is? Coz I feel like I’ve been in fast forward recently. Although apparently not fast enough.

I have a lot planned for next week. Here’s hoping they all push through. Here they are in no specific order:

and others I fail to recall at the moment, since it is 4 in the morning. I do hope when I wake up, time hasn’t gone all fast forward on me again. Sleep is the one time I most appreciate a good slo-mo once in a while.

My Happy Bubble May 14, 2008

In my bubble I can float through air and see the world from a distance, I don’t have to actually be in it. Everything I see around me is covered in a colorful rainbow because of my bubble.

In my bubble I am invincible. Nothing can touch me nor do me any harm.

In my bubble I am happy.

World, you may try to burst my bubble at some point in time, but for the moment, even for the briefest moment, let me be here. Let me be in my happy bubble.
